April 24

How can it be
Something’s not right
I have a birthday
And you’re nowhere in sight

How can I celebrate
Without you here
To tell me a joke
And happy new year

So many of us
With birthdays this week
All thinking of you
With tears on our cheeks

Remembering your youth
When we celebrated together
There were Donnie and Doodie
Gram Joyce and Gramp Paul
Uncle Scott and me
Boy what a week!

But the saddest thing of all
That hits me right here
You missed your 17th birthday
The injustice is clear

So we think of you today
Uncle Scott and I
And we know you are with us
From Heaven on high

For you are the sunshine on our faces
You are the gentle breeze that blows
You are the cats playing chase
And you are in our hearts God knows

Love you, aunt Karen
