Why did you leave?
A year ago today
Why didn't you come home
On that gray November day.

Why did you leave?
Your family and friends behind
Why did I find you
On that dark road side.

Why did you leave?
I will never understand
I told you it would be ok
As I clasped your warm hand.

Why did you leave?
You had so much life to live
Why couldn't I make it better
You had so much love to give.

Why did you leave?
It's been one full year
Filled with pain and sadness
Few smiles and many tears.

Why did you leave?
It wasn't your time
To hear you say Mom again
And to recite another rhyme.

Why did you leave?
It's not supposed to be this way
You should be turning 18 soon
We should be celebrating that upcoming day.

Why did you leave?
I ask that question every day
I will never find an answer
Much to my dismay.

Why did you leave?
I miss you don't you know

More than words can say
More than my heart can ever show.

Why did you leave?
I feel your loss like no other
Our souls are intertwined
The bond of a child and mother.

Missing you always
Love you forever, Mom
