Four Years

Four years have passed
How can that be?
Four years without you
Leaves me so empty

You seem so far
From that past that we know
So far from the little boy
We watched grow and grow

First those chubby cheeks
We could barely resist
All the time you squirmed
They just had to be kissed

Then as you grew
That smile played a part
In making us laugh
In capturing our hearts

Those blue eyes
You got from your mom
That silly giggle
Was your dad’s charm

The laughter in your soul
Welled up through your eyes
And touched us all so,
Love undisguised

So good with little kids
And older people too
Charming every one of us
We felt somehow renewed

We stood back to back
I remember your smile
As you realized, “I’m taller!”
You’d grown by a mile

You grew up it seems
in the blink of an eye
and we were so proud
that cannot be denied

You still had so much
Living to do
A bright future ahead
It was so true

Four years have passed
How can that be?
Since you went to Heaven
From this earth, set free

We miss you Chris
With all of our hearts
